Gourmet Potatoes

We have a rather wonderful new range of Gourmet Potatoes grown on the Morghew Park Estate in the Weald of Kent.

YUKON GOLD. A yellow fleshed potato with a rich, buttery flavour. Originally developed in Canada from varieties bought in by Dutch and German settlers. Excellent for mash and roasting but best known for its legendary chipping qualities

PINK FIR APPLE. A French variety that dates back at least 150 years. Unusual cigar shape, white/yellow flesh, waxy texture and excellent flavour. Superb boiled or steamed as a new or salad potato.

LA RATTE. Although much loved in France La Ratte actually originated in Denmark. A real gourmet potato with a very fine flavour. and lovely waxy yellow/white flesh. La Ratte is the only potato Joel Reblochon will use for his legendary pomme puree.

HIGHLAND BURGUNDY. This variety has a fairly conventional looking red skin, but the flesh inside is as red as a beetroot.  These potatoes are quite floury so they make dramatic-looking chips, potato wedges and mash.

SHETLAND BLACK has a very dark blue, almost black skin with pale yellow flesh that has a distinctive purple ring. It has dry, floury flesh like a King Edward and an attractively buttery flavour. Good for roasting, baking and steaming.

VITELOTTE. This rather striking purple fleshed potato is also known as Black Truffle. The purple colour is retained best when the potato is steamed. Vitelotte have a rather nutty flavour reminiscent of chestnuts and a dry, floury flesh.

SALAD BLUE. This variety has a deep blue skin and an equally deep blue flesh.  It has a floury texture and makes the most striking blue potato wedges, chips and mash. Apparent the blue pigment has antioxidant qualities rather like blueberries.
